Laida Aldaz Arrieta presents In Perspective / Industrial, a choreographic experience in industrial spaces of Navarra and Guipúzcoa with the support of Innova Cultural of Caja Navarra Foundation and “la Caixa” Foundation.
The choreographer and artistic director Laida Aldaz Arrieta, co-director of La Faktoria Choreographic Centre and director of the Zinetika Festival, presents a new version of her project In Perspective, a scenic proposal that transforms non-stage spaces through the dialogue between dance, music and architecture. Entitled In Perspective / Industrial, this creation delves into the universe of industrial architecture, generating unique performative journeys that invite the public to rediscover these spaces from an artistic perspective.
The first performances will take place on June 7 and 8, with passes at 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., at the Iwer Building, the old Rochapea silk factory (Pamplona), in collaboration with La Faktoria CC and the participation of 19 of its international students (Belgium, France, Italy, Brazil, Chile), national and local students belonging to Generation 7 of the Centre’s Training Program: Romane Lambert, Amaia Martínez Lorente, Ariadna Gelabert i Pol, Marilou Le Luherne, Gaia Tamagnini, Maëlys Pignon, Marta Patiño Hidalgo, Carla Escamilla Soria, Rachel Delattre, Natalia Belén Fernández Torrejón, Joséphine Thomas, Iván Montero, Lucía Penalba de los Santos, Saioa Iraizoz Erviti, Molly Maclean, Rosa Guri Cabero, Zoe Aldekoa, Julie Van Minnebruggen, M. Subsequently, the show will be moved to the Hondarribia Colonies of Caja Navarra Foundation on June 28 with passes at 11:30 am and 1:00 pm and will end on August 11 in Tabakalera de Donostia, within the programming of the Musical Fortnight, with functions at 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
The presentations of Hondarribia and Donostia will feature the professional cast of the project: the dancers Gregory Alliot, Stefano Mattiello, Clarissa Costagliola, Maider González, Manon Jacquelin, Sergio Navarro and Aimar Odriozola, the last six trained in Navarra in the factoria CC itself and all the shows will feature live music of drummer and composer Juanma Urriza. In Tabakalera, guest dancers who have been trained in La Faktoria CC and have previously participated in other editions of the project will also be added. In this way, dancers in different professional stages are integrated into the project developing a training dimension.
An evolving project: A dance that transforms the place – from historical heritage and museums to industrial architecture.
In Perspective / Industrial joins the trajectory of the In Perspective project, which was born in the Constable Palace of Pamplona and has toured emblematic spaces such as the Guggenheim Museum of Bilbao, the Oteiza Museum, the Villa Guinigi Museum (Italy), the Institute of Architecture of the Basque Country, the Cathedral of Pamplona or the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, among others and will continue its trajectory on November 29 and 30 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid.
This project breaks with the traditional dance exhibition frames, moving away from conventional stages. They demonstrate and claim that dance can inhabit and transform all kinds of spaces since every place contains the potential to become a stage and brings contemporary creation closer to new contexts and audiences.
The public goes through spaces discovering dance scenes created specifically from and for each place. The architecture, its history and its materials welcome the action and inspire it, generating a narrative between movement, sound and space. Each building generates a piece, giving rise to unique shows with an almost cinematic atmosphere. In its Industrial version, the focus is on spaces of workers’ memory, and in the case of the Colonies in its transformation, where materials, structures and history become engines of the creative process.
The In Perspective / Industrial project was born with the desire to focus on buildings of industrial heritage of Navarre. For this, the advice of Acción, integral management of cultural heritage, was counted on, with whom numerous visits were made to properties catalogued in the province. However, the poor state of most of these spaces, which endangered both the presence of the public and that of the performers, forced to extend the radius of action to other places, including Tabakalera de Donostia and the Hondarribia Colonies of Fundación Caja Navarra, which is a Navarre heritage located in Guipúzcoa. In Navarre, the only industrial space finally activated was the IWER silk factory, in the Rochapea. This experience shows the urgency of valuing and rehabilitating the industrial heritage, recognising its cultural potential and its ability to welcome new uses, as already happens in examples such as Tabakalera. It would be desirable for Navarre to advance in this direction, betting on the recovery of these places as part of its architectural and cultural wealth.
Projects such as In Perspective/Industrial can only be developed thanks to the collaboration between institutions, cultural agents and people with sensitivity and vision. The support of the Innova Cultural program of Caja Navarra Foundation and “la Caixa” Foundation has been key to its realisation in three places, connecting contemporary creation, territory and community. Added to this is the direct involvement of those who have believed in the transformative value of the project and have supported it: from Fermín Llorente and Idoia Monje in the first show in Iruña and Sofía Alforja in Donostia, there have been many people who have actively contributed. On this occasion, IWER factory, Maite Roncal in the Hondarribia Colonies, and Olatz de Andrés in Tabakalera. The role of La Faktoria Choreographic Centre has also been essential, which has trained the performers and strengthened contemporary dance in Navarre. These human and institutional links make it possible for proposals like this to generate a lasting impact on the spaces and communities that inhabit them.
